The Harry Rozmiarek Memorial Scholarship Award

AAALAC International sponsors the ICLAS Veterinary Scholarships through its Harry Rozmiarek Memorial Scholarship Award. This award is given in honor of the late Dr. Harry Rozmiarek who was ICLAS Secretary General at the time of his sudden and unexpected death in June of 2013. Dr. Rozmiarek was a laboratory animal veterinarian who cared greatly about education in laboratory animal science and medicine. During his long and distinguished career he took on many leadership positions in national and international organizations that promote the humane treatment of animals in science including AAALAC, AALAS, ACLAM, and ICLAS. To honor and to continue the work that meant so much to him, the AAALAC International Harry Rozmiarek Memorial Award allows access to training for veterinarians from parts of the globe in which training in laboratory animal science and medicine is unavailable or difficult to obtain.

Past recipients include....

Dr Mangala Gunatilake
Etul Kotte, Sri Lanka 2017 Awardee

"It was a great opportunity for me to get selected for the veterinary scholarship awarded by ICLAS and for me to enrol as a student in the MSc course in Laboratory Animal Science conducted by the Aachen University, Germany. Without such financial support it is not possible for a person from the Asian part of the world to follow a recognized course in LAS. As a Trainer-of-trainees, the knowledge and skills that I will gain through this course will be very valuable in imparting knowledge and skills to juniors in Sri Lanka. I am really thankful to AAALAC and ICLAS for the opportunity provided."

"Thank you AAALAC for your support of the ICLAS Veterinary Scholarship program which has helped me to cover the cost of training in the Certificate in Laboratory Animal Medicine with University of Guelph, Canada. I will use this training opportunity to learn and share my experience in the field of laboratory animal science as much as possible at my institution and in my country. Your support will be of great benefit to my work and also for animal welfare and well-being in future research."

Dr. Marina Snitcofsky
Buenos Aires, Argentina 2014 Awardee

"I would like to express my deep gratitude to ICLAS and AAALAC for allowing me to do the Master in Science and Welfare of Laboratory Animals at the UAB in Barcelona. Without this economic help, it would be impossible for me, as I live in Argentina, to pay for the trips and the enrolment on this Master. This training is improving my knowledge of the field and generating important contacts with colleagues. It has also opened a new job opportunity for me in Argentina, as I have been able to obtain a new post as a consultant in welfare, health, management and experimental design in various public and private institutions. The course has also motivated me to speak at a number of academic events (conferences, workshops), which has filled me with pride and passion. Thanks again for giving me this opportunity and for helping Latin American professionals."

Veterinary Degree: obtained in 2005 from Veterinary School, Buenos Aires University
