Program Status Evaluation (PSE) application

You can download PSE application materials here, or e-mail AAALAC to request an application be sent to you.

There are three documents you need to download. The first is an application, and the second is instructions you will need to complete your "Program Description," and the third is the Program Description template* which will provide AAALAC with the information it needs to evaluate your animal care and use program.

*Institutions intending to use the PSE service prior to hosting an accreditation site visit should bear in mind the timeframe of submitting the application for accreditation. If your institution intends to host the accreditation site visit after August 1, 2011, then the revised Program Description template, which is based on the 8th Edition of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (Guide, NRC 2011) must be used for the PSE. If you intend to host the accreditation site visit before August 1, 2011 (e.g., during the Summer trimester (May through July) 2011, then the Program Description template based on the 7th Edition of the Guide (NRC 1996) must be used for the PSE and accreditation site visit. In this latter case, please contact the AAALAC office ( for a copy of this template. Applications for accreditation for the Summer trimester must be submitted by April 1st.
